Volunteering in Hawaii

April is Earth Month in America! This time in particular is a time to raise awareness around the issues that affect nature.

For our students, they had the opportunity to learn and help to make Hawaii a better place through volunteering. Some previous opportunities were the Waikiki Aquarium Coastal Clean up in February and the Waikiki Aquarium’s 120th Birthday Beach Clean up in March. On the first Saturday of each month, the Kokua Learning Farm holds a volunteer workday where they work on various projects while learning about sustainability in the islands and supporting local food systems. On April 13th, the Waikiki Aquarium held a Mauka to Makai Earth Day event to promote the importance of keeping Hawaii clean and free of pollution from the mountains (mauka) to the ocean (makai).

And on April 23rd, in celebration of Earth Day (April 22nd), our Student Services Coordinator organized a beach clean up event at Ala Moana Beach.
