At Global Village Hawaii, we have one big rule: English Only. Whether you are in class, in the hallway, or looking at the ocean from our lounge, we ask you to speak only English. Why? Because it is the “secret ingredient” to learning fast.

Here are 3 simple reasons why this rule helps you:

1. Stop Translating, Start Thinking

Most students hear an English word, translate it to their own language, and then translate it back.
This takes a long time!

• The Goal: When you must speak English all day, your brain stops translating.
• The Result: You start thinking in English. This makes your conversation smooth and natural.

2. Your Brain Needs a “Workout”

Learning a language is like going to the gym. If you only lift light weights, your muscles don’t grow. When you cannot use your native language, your brain has to work harder to find the right words. This “workout” helps you remember new vocabulary much better than just reading a book.

• If you speak your native language, you only talk to people from your country.
